Residents in Crowborough could enjoy a council tax freeze for the part they pay to Wealden District Council for the 2012 to 2013 financial year.

Bob Standley, Leader of the Council, said the council could do it because the government is supporting councils who limit expenditure rises to below 2.5 per cent.

He said the council's Transformation Programme, launched nearly three years ago, had delivered substantial savings and when "fully implemented, will deliver savings of over £3 million a year while maintaining key services".

The council will be consulting on its proposed council tax freeze before a final decision is made by full council on February 15.

It will mean the Wealden element of residents' total council tax bill will remain at £174.06 for an average Band D property for the third year in a row - which is the equivalent of £3.35 a week.

It will be the third year Wealden staff have had no general pay rise and the fourth year that councillors' allowances have been frozen.

The full council tax bill for a Wealden household includes payments to East Sussex County Council, Sussex Police, East Sussex Fire & Rescue and local parish and town councils. It is not clear if they will be frozen yet.

Theres almost no chance of the Town Council not increasing out council tax again I suspect.

In fact the minutes of the last meeting of the Finance and General Purposes committee state

"It was suggested that information should be provided to explain that the zero
council tax rise applies to principal authorities only and not town/parish
    councils."

So it would seem they are planning an increase. Even if the Coalition government has asked oarish councils to show restraint. Which COuncillors say they are Lib Dem and which Conservative?

Is that a freeze like last year when the Town Council element went up by 13%
to help pay for the £3.5 million Community Centre.
Thats a strange definition of freeze.
