Town Council Website

So after lots of promises we have the new Town Council website. So what does everyone think about it?

Personal I am not convinced. I am not sure what was wrong with the old site, although I understand that it was difficult to update. However whilst some information is just as easy to fiind as it was looking for Agendas and Minutes is a total nightmare, and of course if you want to minutes and agendas from meetings before the new site when life you have no chance.

From the point of view of a ratepayer the new site offers no advantages whatsoever, and in fact as agendas and minutes are so time consuming to access is actually inferior to the old site. Anyone would think they don't want us fiding out what they are up to.

Just for interest the site uses Joomla an open source content management
programme.Although pretty good some of the earlier versions can result in vulnerabilities .The latest version of joomla is 1.7 but this site uses 1.5 so the whole site is more vulnerable to cyber attack than it could/should have been.
Incidently you can produce some excellent content with Joomla so why have we ended up with this dogs dinner.

The format is very dated with those pull down menus making it look like a student project gone wrong.
The home page seems to have a totally redundant pane saying submenu which does precisely the square root of nothing.We dont need the weather gadget either because if we want to know what the weather is we just look out the window.
All could be forgiven though if it provided the residents with the information they want but it doesnt even do that especially the meeting agenda/minutes section which I agree is next to impossible to navigate.
Wasnt there also going to be a public forum included which doesnt seem to have materialised.
All in all a good effort if the author was a monkey but generally I would give it a D minus.
