Are We Going to be Left in the Dark?

At last year's town conference there was a suggestion put forward to turn off our street lights to save money. The scheme has recently been trialled in Heathfield - does anyone know anything about whether we will be having the same for Crowborough?
I personally think it is a bizarre idea. Security for our homes, businesses and safety when out and about in the early hours or in the evening, would all be compromised and for what? The money saved on the cost of electricity would no doubt have to be spent on clearing up after increased break-ins, traffic accidents and all manner of other scenarios that are reduced by having well-lit streets. What do you think?
