debris: Accident site at Heathfield
First, a 48-year-old Wadhurst woman had to be cut free from the wreckage of her silver Daihatsu in Lower High Street, the B2099, near Wadhurst.
She was taken to King's College Hospital in London with serious injuries.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue firefighters also helped a 60-year-old man who became trapped following a two-vehicle crash in Cade Street, near Heathfield. He was taken to Eastbourne District Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The first accident happened at 3.20pm near to Darbys Lane in Wadhurst when the injured woman's car collided with a green Land Rover Defender coming in the opposite direction. The driver of the Land Rover, a 51-year-old man, and his four passengers received only minor injuries.
Fire crews from both Crowborough and Wadhurst used hydraulic cutting equipment to free her.
The second accident happened at 4.25pm when the injured man's black Daihatsu Terios collided with a red Ford Ranger pick-up.
It is thought that the Daihatsu, which was travelling west towards Heathfield, drifted into the opposite carriageway.
The driver of the Ford, a 63-year-old man from Punnetts Town, and his 60-year-old woman passenger, each suffered broken ankles and were taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings for treatment.
Any witnesses for the Wadhurst accident should ring police on 101 quoting Operation Fuji and any witnesses to the Heathfield accident should ring the same number quoting serial 1044 of February 11.
