Crowborough Celebrity Connections

Anyone know of a celebrity living in our midst? I like to think I am up on most of these things but the legend that is Kim Woodburn appearing at the Horder Centre's spring fair billed as a 'local resident' came as a total surprise.

We are all aware of the Conan-Doyle connection, but do we have any other famous faces bobbing about? Simon Gallup, base player from the Cure has lived in Crowborough for many years. During a visit to the Dorset Arms pub his offer of buying everyone a round was turned down by the locals as they took him to be a skint student who would do better to spend his money on getting some trousers without holes and a decent haircut! There was an unfounded roumour that the middle one from Bananarama did his gardening for him, too.

David Jason was a regular at the Dorset Arms pub at Withyham and the fella that plays Phil Mitchell used to frequent the Crowborough Cross. There has also been mention of the original captain Birdseye being a Crowborough resident, too.

We've had many a celebrity come to open our fete - Jane Torville and the bloke who was the under-cover Gendarme in 'Allo 'Allo to name but two. Do you know of any other Crowborough celebrity connections? Seen Cheryl Cole checking out the fashion in the Factory Shop or Don Johnson going for a round of Golf?

Ooooh, that Tom Baker gets about, I too saw him feeling up the bananas in Heathfield's Budgens. My mate got drama lessons from Barry 'Cillit Bang' Scott. I am intrigued to know who the celebs are in Tunbridge Wells, Wadhurst and Mayfield. I know Jo Brand grew up in The Wells, but who else?

If you include Wadhurst and, especially, Mayfield in your catchment area there are a surprising number of celebrities living locally. And if you include Tunbridge Wells as well, it gets really interesting. My wife has bumped, literally, into Tom Baker in M&S and I have sat next to "Grouty" at the optician. It's a small world.
