THE Yew Tree Theatre School came of age with an 18th birthday celebratory gala at Victoria Hall in Southborough last week.
From Sunday 26 to Tuesday, August 28 they put on the YT93 musical gala to celebrate the occasion. Parents and past students were there helping with hair and make-up and behind the bar. Others simply went to enjoy the show.
Christina Yates, principal of the school, said: “The gala went down really well; the students are already talking about a 19th birthday celebration.
“It was really nice to have the Royal Philharmonic Conductor working with the students. He came to the school for three weeks and spent his time playing piano with the children and helping them rehearse. He also stayed locally and loved Tunbridge Wells.”
Yew Tree Theatre School was established in 1993 and holds operating bases all over the county.
There are centres in Cranbrook, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells and Crowborough, with plans to open more centres in the future.
John Rigby, musical director of the Royal Philharmonic, said: “This school is truly amazing. The students are part of a fantastic pedigree spanning 18 years. No school matches its professionalism in production and performance and all those that are a part of it should be very proud.”
Student Charlotte Boyd was invited to spend a day at the Millennium School with West End choreographer Nikki Woolaston. Charlotte has been offered an audition at the Millennium due to her outstanding performance during the gala.
