Crowborough Speed Gun Operators - Are You Game?

It's no secret that Wealden's roads are amongst the most dangerous in the country. We have well above average fatalities annually. With this in mind Fairwarp Parish Council is looking for Speedwatch volunteers. They are after people to man the speed gun wearing yellow high-visibility jackets and the information gained from the exercise is then dealt with by the police.
This scheme is proven to be effective in rural areas. This is a world away from Speed Cameras used in towns, penalising indiscriminately, stinging you for £50 for going 32mph in a 30 zone, essentially harmless to other road users, there are those that argue speed cameras do more harm than good.
Fairwarp's location B2026 sees more than it's fair share of cars going well above the speed limit. Its on the forest and it's fairly traffic-free so it's inevitable there's going to be cars hooning through the village.
What's do you think of the speedwatch scheme?

The problem with these sort of schemes are that the sort of people who volunteer are the wrong sort of people to take part.
Just because someone has been given a speed gun and a hi vis jacket doesnt mean that they are competent to operate them safely or correctly.
I wouldnt want some local victor meldrew character pointing a class one laser product at me under any circumstances.
